Would it shock you to discover that there are lots of folks who weather back pain, but still have the fulfilling lives relatively free of pain? If you suffer from recurrent back pain, you too are most likely surprised.

Standing for long periods of time can create back pain. Most people find that standing for hours with no break inflicts pressure on the back muscles. Varying positions between sitting and standing will prevent tired back muscles and improve the general health of the back.

Drinking red wine in moderation has been shown to help alleviate back pain. Wine relaxes your muscles, and helps you sleep better. Drinking an occasional glass of red wine can be a fantastic remedy for a painful back.

When you make an appointment with a doctor to deal with back pain, ask him the right types of questions. You will need to ask him about what is causing your pain, how you can prevent worsening it, the kinds of treatments that exist and these treatments' risks.

Regardless of whatever position you're in, always prevent any ongoing stress onto the same muscles. Try to prevent repetitive movements when completing tasks that you perform on a daily basis. Always shift your stance and change positions, such as from standing to sitting, every 20 to 30 minutes.

Always sit up straight in your chair. Not doing so will put strain on your spine that is not necessary. If, for any reason, you sit for a long time during the day, you need a supportive and comfortable chair. Having an exercise ball to sit on can help your posture and help build your supportive back muscles.

Carry weight equally on both shoulders. If you carry things regularly, for example a handbag or your books for school, try using a backpack style so you have the weight spread over a broad surface.

Your mattress is an important component to waking up with less pain in your back. Many people sleep for a third of a day, so if the mattress is not good for the back, the day will be really painful. Choose a quality medium-firm mattress, and make sure your neck is positioned properly with pillows.

Muscle spasms will need to be eased if you are having serious back pain. The fastest way to accomplish this is by laying down and putting heat on the tense muscles. It may also be a good idea to drink more fluids than usual and lower the sodium in your diet until the pain diminishes. If you get dehydrated, the muscle spasms will worsen.
